In recent years, airsoft has become one of the most popular shooting sports in Western countries. Though it was originally played in Japan in the seventies, it’s only more recently that it’s come to the forefront in the United States and Europe.

In comparison, paintball was actually invented after airsoft. Though in Europe, it’s been a much more common option for a longer period of time. Much of the popularity of paintball relies on the ability to shoot each other and have the ability to know you’ve hit the targeted with a paintball mark – something that’s missing in airsoft. But still, airsoft becomes increasingly popular amongst all ages.

So, if you’re looking to get into airsoft or paintball, which one should you choose? Is one better than the other, or are they both relatively similar in terms of enjoyability?

Paintball vs Airsoft

Deciding between paintball and airsoft can be difficult. They’re both shooting sports, and whilst they may seem fairly similar on the surface, they’re actually quite different.

Generally, paintball is the better choice for those looking for a day out. Whereas with airsoft, once you get started it can be a steep slope of addiction, so be warned! Anyway, here are some of the pros and cons of both sports.

Pros and Cons of Paintball

Undoubtedly one of the main benefits of playing paintball is that you can actually tell that if you get your shot off. With airsoft, you have to rely on trust for the other person to acknowledge that you’ve shot them. But with paintball, there’s no denying a big splatter of paint on your opponent.

Between the two, paintball is far more suitable for younger kids than Airsoft. Airsoft can be insanely competitive, and although paintball can be too, is traditionally isn’t as competitive as paintball.

You can get yourself a starter paintball gun for a relatively cheap price, which will allow you to get started with paintball at a much lower price than playing Airsoft.

Pros and Cons of Airsoft

One of the good things about Airsoft is that you get a ton of different options to choose from. As the sport becomes more and more popular, there’s a lot more variety of different airsoft guns available.

Another reason that people prefer Airsoft over other similar sports is because of the realism. I’m not for one minute comparing airsoft to the reality of firing actual guns, but it is more similar to this than paintball or laser tag. This is largely due to the design of the guns, which are often based on real ones.

Conclusion

Overall, both paintball and airsoft are good choices if you’re looking to have some shooting fun. Whilst paintball might suit the more casual, occasional player, airsoft is a better choice for those who are looking to get serious. Although Airsoft guns aren’t anywhere as accurate as real military guns, they tend to have a greater accuracy over paintball guns.

If you’re looking to have some fun however,  then paintball is likely to be a better choice. It’s a lot less serious than airsoft, and you have the opportunity to
