Having a Nerf party can be a great idea. But, it can be really difficult to know where to begin. This is especially true if you’re not as obsessed with Nerf as your kids probably are. So, to ensure you’ve got all based covered, you should have a look online and find some good Nerf party ideas.
There’s a ton of great ideas online that you’ll want to take a look at if you’re not exactly sure what to do. Nerf parties are relatively easy in comparison to other types of themed parties, because you don’t have a ton of different characters and color schemes to keep up with. As long as you stick with the basic blue and yellow coloring, it’s going to look pretty authentic.
Anyway, here are a few things that I like to make sure of before I’ve held a Nerf party in the past.
Nerf Party Ideas
Make a list of games to play
I have an entire list of war game ideas for Nerf because me and the kids play it so much. You’ll want to create a list of games before you start so that you don’t run out of ideas halfway through. Here’s a couple of my favorites for when groups get together;
- Cowboy Duels – This is great because you only need to pick up cheap, one shot guns for the kids to use against each other. Count them down to the turnaround and have a tournament of who can turn around the fastest!
- Tin Can Alley – Another one of my favorites is tin can alley. All you need to do is set up a number on tin cans and assign each of them a different amount of points. You can also do it with red cups, but Nerf darts are generally powerful enough to do tin cans too.
- The Hide and Seek – Another one of my favorites is to have the kids play Hide and Seek, and mix that in with regular Nerf. It’s a good way to keep the kids quiet for a little bit and lower the high excitement levels.
Get the right Nerf guns
Unfortunately, if you’re holding a Nerf party, then the likelihood is that you’ll have to ensure there’s enough guns there. A quick ring around the other parents can be a good idea, as you can ensure whether the kids have their own Nerf gun they can bring. But, there’s absolutely nothing worse than one kid not having a Nerf gun whilst the rest of them get to play.
You can check out my top Nerf guns ever for an idea of some of the better Nerf guns to pick. They don’t have to be expensive – you could even opt for small, powerful Nerf guns like the Jolt , which you can usually find for $6-10 online.
Use Pool Noodles
Pool noodles make an awesome practical way to recreate a Nerf party. They’re made of foam like Nerf, and they generally look pretty similar too. You can actually cut up the blue pool noodles and wrap the ends of them to make them look like giant Nerf darts! This is something super cool that the kids are sure to love.
Get a Nerf Cake
No Nerf Party is complete without an awesome Nerf cake. You can likely contact the nearest cake place close to your house and consult them about this. It doesn’t have to be anything too drastic, though you can go as big and bold as you want with this one.
You can head over to places like Cake Central to get some awesome ideas that you can send to the cake shop. Or, scroll through Pinterest for a few minutes to get some inspiration too.
Go with a Blue Color Theme
Going with a blue color theme throughout the whole party is a great idea. It really gives the full Nerf vibe, and you don’t have to do too much to achieve this. Generally, you can just purchase blue pool noodles and use those, as well as getting some blue tablespread and other blue accessories.
Set up Shooting Targets
Of course, when kids get hold of a Nerf gun, their first priority is to shoot it. And whilst shooting each other will be fun most of the time, you’ll also want to set up some shooting targets for when the kids get tired (or you want to diffuse an argument over who shot who). Setting up enough shooting targets around the room will give the kids another thing to do at a Nerf Party.
Nerf Goody/Party Bags
Like I mentioned earlier, the Nerf Jolt is cheap enough (around $6) that you can actually give it away in a goody bag at the party itself. You can also fill the bag with other cool stuff that you’d usually find in any kids party goody bag.
Overall, these are just a few first steps that you should consider if you’re planning out a Nerf party for your kids. It can take a while to get everything together, but it is very rewarding in the end, especially if your kid is a Nerf addict like mine. You can continue to look around online for more inspiration so that you can give your kids the Nerf party they want. And remember – it’s Nerf or Nothin!
